Out of spells. Out of heals. On empty. Kyril used his last detect magic and joined the DM in the kitchen. There was indeed a pile of treasure in the dragon’s lair but it seemed to be mainly coins and non-magical crap, as determined by Kyril’s detection spell. Mist and the sound of falling water to the north, possibly an exit from the cavern.
Cathal handed Tim the cup but the wizard could not read it. The paladin took the cup back, spoke the words and it filled with fluid. He handed it back to Tim who quaffed it. It tasted like excellent scotch ale.
We then setup a resting order with Kyril and Lycovyne at the top. Kyril borrowed the magical net from Flint and set it up as a trap. We began to rest and immediately Kyril and Lycovyne went to the kitchen.
A large party of creatures was approaching the party in the darkness. Human in size, but muscular, squat, scaly gray skin, sightless eyes, wearing rags and pieces of armor. The pair awakened the rest of the party, and Cathal detected evil approaching.
Grimlock Battle#
The creatures were many in number, led by a hulking brute, larger than the rest, who attempted to communicate with Kyril and Lycovyne. His attempts to talk were clumsy, guttural, demanding, in no language either knew. The lead brute seemed to be demanding something, shouting, making a shapely female curve with his hands, pointing at the dragon, pointing at the party, and beating his chest in sign-language that clearly indicated “give”.
No agreement was reached, or even comprehended. Tensions built and Lycovyne settled the confusion by casting a 20 point fireball into the darkness and many creatures in the van died. Flint, awake by now and creeping towards the foes, used his Wand of Wonder (6 charges left) and promptly disappeared, having diminished himself from 4’ to 4" tall . Fray ensued, and the howling, grey- skinned horde hurled themselves savagely at the outnumbered party.
