10 August 2019

Double doors at the end of the hallway, bronze with a single stone step. The step glowed with some glowing, green translucent light. A human skull was embedded in each door, with a very large pull ring below each (A, below). Kyril was, of course, absent.

We all agreed that, if Kyril had indeed survived, he could get to us much more quickly than we could get to him, so we decided to press onward. The wizards were beginning to feel the presence of excessive amounts of mana in the surroundings as we moved more deeply into the earth.

Flint examined the luminescent green step, even tossing a bronze coin onto it with no apparent effect. The skulls looked like they had once been inside real human heads. Screwing up his courage ( while the rest of the party backed up) Flint stood upon the step. Nothing seemed to happen. He grasped one of the knockers firmly, but not too firmly. He touched but it but, you know, like, didn’t really touch it much.

The Skull Beneath The Skin#

He pulled on the knocker and immediately took 5 points of damage as a chill overtook him. Immediately the eyes in the skull on the right began to glow, while the left skull began to speak:

If ye be no powerful wizard, begone. There lie bones enough within.

The right skull then spoke:

Think thyself powerful in Art? Come in then, and die - there’s room enough yet.

Both skulls then fell silent, the radiance in their eyes pulsed, and 4 magic missiles were emitted:

  • Ulland, who just happened to be up front\footnote{Hey, if you’re not at the table, you’re what’s for dinner…} , took 2 points of damage
  • Flint took 3 more points
  • a magic missile went around Lycovyne, specifically and obviously, and hit Cathal for 3 points of damage
  • Gonchar got hit for 3 points
  • Menka, who was rather wisely out of range, took no damage

Getting the warning, the party volunteered Lycovyne to open the doors. He stepped up and grasped the knockers and was not hit with a chill spell. We formed marching order. Lycovyne gave it a yank, then opened the doors. They opened into a chamber 60’ wide. 20’ into the room darkness fell to the ground like a heavy sheet. Neither the light from our various continuous light enchanted items nor the light from the Sword of Sharpness penetrated that darkness.

In front of that sheet of darkness, 5 skulls floated at roughly human height. Lycovyne spoke to the skulls but did not enter the room. They did not respond though they seemed to be watching him intently. Lycovyne entered the room at (1, map below) and all 5 skulls began to “speak” in unison.

“\emph{Wizards only! Ye’ve heard the rule. All other who would not feed worms, turn back. All who pass, lay down magic that lies in what ye hold and not thy mind, for to carry items onward brings peril. We shall watch o’er them for thee: we’re suited for little else, anymore.}”

It was clear that only wizards would be allowed to move forward. Tim stepped into the room with Lycovyne. He stuck his staff into the darkness with no effect. Touching the darkness, it felt cold. He touched a skull as well and it was, indeed, a skull.

Tim stripped himself of all magical equipment and walked forward into the darkness into the room at (2). It receded 20’, opening up a second chamber.

The floor exposed as the darkness receded was covered in bones. Skulls, rib cages, long bones, all human. One non-glowing skull hung in mid-air at head height in the middle of the room. Tim disappeared from the party’s view when he stepped across the threshold.

Out of sight and beyond the party’s hearing the floating skull spoke to Tim:

“\emph{Ye persist - is life so light a thing to thee? Think on this, as I did not. Take Suul less lightly than did I.}”

A cryptic hint, indeed. The floating skull then disappeared.

Lycovyne divested himself of all magical gear (up to AC8) and joined Tim in the room to the east. Together they crossed the second threshold into the room at (3) and the sheet of darkness receded another 20’. The room was so deeply filled with the bones of the dead that the two spellcasters had to make dex checks just to walk through. A second dex check was required to completely cross the room and Lycovyne failed that one, tripping and falling in the heaps of bones and taking 2 points of damage.

Having reached the sheet of darkness on the other side of the room, Tim the Enchanter stuck his head through into the darkness into the chamber at (4). He saw a skeleton sitting in state upon a floating throne. Tim entered the room and the darkness receded again. He made a save vs. magic, for some unseen event. The skeleton began to speak to him.

Is thy art great enough? Are ye sure??

The skeleton, in its tattered robes, did not respond when Tim asked it what lay behind the next wall of darkness. Lycovyne then entered the room. Same save vs magic made, same words spoken by the floating skeleton. A woman with long brown hair floated through the north wall into the room, toward Tim. She was comely from a distance, though up close her face was stark, chalk-white skin stretched over her skull, and her eyes were two dark pits. Tim began to masturbate furiously.

She examined each character closely, and afterwards nodded, and spoke:

Your art has a home here.

She then disappeared through the south wall.

Tim checked out the sheet of darkness on the far side of the room. Lycovyne was surprised to see a head rise from the floor, and then a second. The heads regarded Lycovyne in silence, taking no action. While Lycovyne had his entertainment, Tim stuck his head through the threshold. This next chamber was well lit by a source at least 70’ in the air.

Tim and Lycovyne entered the next chamber at (5). There was a tall pillar in the middle of the room. A skeletal figure smoked a pipe while reading a book atop the pillar. Books and vials lined the shelves behind and around him. The floor at Lycovyne’s feet was knee deep in the pipe ash of centuries of reading.

Aye? Thy names? Bring ye magic to buy continued life?

Suul, then. He made it clear that if Lycovyne and Tim wanted to live any longer they needed to provide him with some new magic spells. Tim handed Suul his own spell book. Suul, finding nothing new or unknown in the tome, scoffed at it and threw it back. Insulted, Tim attempted to leave the room but Suul would not let him leave. Tim failed his save and was frozen in place. Lycovyne then handed Suul his own spell book. Suul spat on this one as well and threw it back.

It all looked bad for our heroes when, suddenly, Lycovyne recalled that he (probably was) carrying The Sign of the Southern Cross, a gift from Guldar Heel. He handed said sacred tome to Suul.

Yessss! Thissss! Thissss will do!! Yessss!

Suul found the book to be fascinating and began to copy spells from within. 45 full minutes later, he threw it back to Lycovyne. Tim thawed out.

“\emph{I am feeling magnanimous, so you may leave with your lives. Return with more new magic and perhaps I will reward you and assist you in the future.}”

Tim and Lycovyne returned to the party and filled us all in while they regained their armor and items. “All that for nothing.” Seeing no obvious way forward we turned around and headed back through the long chamber filled with Cathal’s protestant undead.

We took our time walking back through the long chamber. It took well over an hour but we searched it thoroughly. We found nothing. We did however calculate that it would take 4-5 hours for Kyril to get back to us, and we estimated it had been 2 hours since his dramatic withdrawal.

We made the long trek back to the bridge over foul fluid at (B) without incident. It smelled even worse, if that’s possible, and a faint, diffuse glow filled the area.

Without A Paddle#

Standing on the bridge we could see a black metal ladder attached to the northern wall. It led to a tunnel 60’ above the bridge. Preferring not to navigate the foul sludge under the bridge, our buoyant paladin offered to levitate up and look around. We decided to bring in the carpet as well in case it all went pear-shaped and Cathal needed something to hold onto or vice-versa.

Lycovyne, Flint and Menka mounted the carpet and the 4 floated over to the ladder and then upward, keeping the ladder close. With Ulland holding on and walking on the bridge. The bridge collapsed, opening up under Ulland’s feet.

Ulland, failing a 19 dex check due to armor penalties, dropped 40’ into sludge worse than any nightmare and took 2 points of damage as well. He began retching immediately. It was obviously difficult to keep his head above the surface while racked with the heaves.

The party concocted a plan to pull Ulland out of his predicament. Cathal would grab the retching Ulland while holding on to the carpet and, joining forces, we would lift him from the muck. As soon as Cathal grabbed Ulland’s foul, out-stretched hand what can only be described as shit golems [Hereafter known as *excrementals*...] rose from the mud. Huge-thewed, massive, semi-fluid creatures, they began throwing foul muck around.

Ulland got hit several times with the muck being thrown, and it started to cake on him, making it difficult to move. All requisite checks were made, and we were able to pull Ulland from the muck and get him back to dry ground. The creatures threw crap around for a bit longer and then melted back into the muck.

Ulland was a retching, nasty mess. The party could come up with no means with which to cleanse him. Menka offered to ordain Ulland and teach him the 1st level Southern cleric spell cleanse, but that would take too long. We left him off to the side and out of the way, to retch and whimper alone for a while.

The prior airborne team regrouped and headed back up, vertically, following the ladder. We reached the tunnel at the top without incident. Looking in the tunnel, we saw a creature that looked like a red kobold with wings. It held a wand in one hand, watching us. The tunnel seemed to be collapsed or otherwise closed behind the creature.

The creature did not threaten us, though it stood ready with its wand. Flint ensnared the creature in the Net of Entanglement. We parleyed, and it introduced itself as Ilierann, a wizard formerly with The Band of the Blue Dragon. He had been traveling for quite a while with that august assemblage. In a recent battle, the human wizard Ilierann had been polymorphed into his present form during a battle with a wizard. His troupe had moved forward, reaching the bridge below. His entire troupe was on the bridge when the trap tripped. Everyone in his group plummeted into the muck, except for himself, since he could fly. Flint released Ilierann from the Net.

Kyril Returns, His Hymen In Tatters#

Ilierann was stuck down here. He asked us to help him get out. Asking how, he told us that one of his companions carried a Luck Blade [DMG III.G pg. 165.] which he knew had at least one wish left. He said that with his help, we could retrieve the Luck Blade from the muck. The party could then keep the Blade if they first allowed Ilierann to use the wish to change himself back to a human wizard. Those of us on the carpet and Cathal agreed to this arrangement and, just then, we heard a familiar voice bellow from below.

The druid beckoned from the western side of the bridge, having just arrived. Cathal and Menka (on the carpet) brought Kyril over to the eastern side. He did not exude any evil beyond normal levels.

He had indeed teleported without error to the bottom of the river behind the monastery. The current at the bottom of the river was roaring, and he fought both the river and The Huntress at the same time. He lost his fight with the river and let go of the writhing vampire. She was carried away by the powerful current and that was the last he “saw” her. He immediately turned into a giant beaver (lol) and swam to the shore.

The sun was rising as he reached the shore. Even in gaseous form (movement speed 3"/round) it would take her a long time to reach shelter from the sun on the shoreline. If the huntress survived her immersion, and further if she made it to the shore in gaseous form, then she may still exist. Lots of ifs, and no way to tell. It is possible that The Huntress was destroyed. It is unlikely that she made it back to her casket in time.

He traveled along the shoreline as a beaver and headed back to the Monastery entrance. The situation at the entrance was far different from what it was 7 full sessions ago when we were last there. Ogres are re-investing the top level of the monastery. They were pulling out all the lizard man bodies and making the space their own. Apparently, they were working with a group of hill giants (yes that’s plural). Kyril noted that one of the ogres was freaking enormous, larger even than the hill giants.

Kyril cavorted by the stream in the form of a giant beaver, looking for some hot, wet action. Instead, he was molested by a wayward ogre. Just then oily black tentacles sprang from the earth, encircling and then killing his burly assailant. A human appeared, and, seeing that the beaver was actually an elvish druid, helped out [Carter had cast *Evard's Black Tentacles* (UA pg. 56).] . That human then cast rope trick and climbed up to safety. Kyril changed form back to an elf and joined him.

The human introduced himself as Randolph Carter [You fool! Warren is dead!!!] . Carter gave him an arcane communications device, with switches and blinking lights. As a man who lives outside of the constraints imposed upon the rest of us by time, Carter had some great information for Kyril.

Go south (from the large, central chamber) and up the ramp through the secret door to the crypts. Within lives an old, ancient man. He is forced to be there, never to leave, by someone named The Sorcerer. This old man knows everything about the catacombs beneath the Monastery. He is the Lore Master. Seek him out.

–Randolph Carter

Parting ways with Carter, he headed into the tunnels and made his way to the pit in the floor on the 2nd level with the chains dropping into the depths. There he found Arkadios’ former traveling companion dead, drained by a vampire, near the pit. He had been drained by a vampire, yes, but it was a blow to the head that had killed him.

Kyril detoured a bit after, turned into a bat and dropped down into the pit to the 3rd level. Searching around, he entered a tunnel he thought the party may have followed. As he flew down the tunnel it became increasingly more difficult to resist the call of the bats. He changed form again, becoming an elf. The call of the bats subsided, and he made the rest of the journey on foot.

Shortly thereafter, he met us on the bridge at Shit Creek. He pulled out the communicating device and tried it:

Carter - I have reached my party.

He received only a buzzing noise in response. Kyril said that Randolph Carter travels back and forth between our plane and others - we will likely see him again.

The Lucky Blade#

Ilierann said we could find the Lucky Blade in the northeastern corner of the room, buried in the muck.

Kyril would certainly note the presence of a Lucky Blade while detecting magic in the area. He agreed to do so and a general plan was assembled to move him around on the carpet to cover more area. After having retrieved the Blade we would then head out in search of the casket home of the Huntress.

Kyril and Lycovyne climbed aboard the carpet and rose into the air. Surveying Shit Creek with detect magic in effect, Kyril noted:

  • all of the disgusting muck was faintly magical
  • in the northeastern corner something was gleaming with magic, backing up Ilierann’s story
  • 14 magical creatures lie at the bottom of the muck - they seem to be humanoid bodies glowing with magic

Kyril noted that the muck seemed to be about 10’ deep. He suggested he could lift the sword out of the muck with a strategically placed stone shape spell. Menka and Lycovyne could pull Cathal over to the stone shaped pillar - Cathal could grab the Blade and those of us on the carpet would be there to help if anything went wrong.

The plan was agreed to. Kyril broke out his clay and constructed an enormous concrete dildo. Said dildo then rose from the muck with the Blade on top. Waiting in place, Cathal grabbed the Blade. We noticed that a skeletal figure was climbing the stone column - perhaps one of the magical humanoid forms under the muck. Menka was unable to turn it.

The skeletal creature failed to grab Cathal’s hand (he made his strength and dex checks) but did touch his armor, which began to corrode immediately.

We made it back to the eastern end of the bridge where a huddled, filthy Ulland continued to whimper. We had retrieved the Lucky Blade! Cathal cut a large section of his armor free to keep the corrosion from spreading.

Ilierann asked Cathal to use one of the Blade’s wishes and turn him back into human form. Cathal went through the motions, made the wish and the party watched as Ilierann polymorphed from a winged kobold into a naked human with a wand. It looked like a painful process. Cathal bound Ilierann’s wounds and we dug an old cloak out of the Bag of Holding for him to wear. He thanked us profusely and said that, if we didn’t mind, he’d tag along for a while. He wanted to get back to the surface but that just didn’t seem possible at this time.

Interestingly, Ilierann has a bag following him around in mid-air, and he also has the ability to carry heavy objects (???). Kyril cured Flint’s more serious wounds. Ilierann was now at 35/45 points.

Lycovyne 34/45
Menka 39/47
Kyril 46/54
Gonchar 63/88
Flint 45/55
Ulland 77/82
Cathal 49/57
Tim 24/29

We regrouped a bit and assumed a marching order. It was time to go find the casket home of the Huntress. We decided to head to Kyril’s bat palace and check it out. A recuperating vampire just might attract a large number of bats! The filthy, still whimpering Ulland brought up the distant rear.

We traveled northeast back to the large central chamber. On the way there we heard a terrible, screeching sound that was half rat and half bat. Nowhere near us, way ahead of our position. We reached the central chamber without incident.

We then entered the second tunnel from the left, south. The ceiling was very low, Cathal, his armor missing in large chunks, had to keep his head very low to get through. 50’ into this tunnel Gonchar did not fail his dex check and therefore did not fall into the pit trap that suddenly fell open in front of him. We put the carpet over the trap and walked across.

50’ feet south the tunnel entered the 20’x20’ room at (C ). Unlike the rest of the tunnels under the monastery, this room was neatly kept and well swept. The chain affixed to the wall was broken. A shallow hole in one corner of the room made it seem as if something had dug its way into the room through the floor. The hole was shallow, though, and did not continue downward. Perhaps something had been buried and then exhumed? Otherwise, the room was empty.

We heard that screeching again. Closer this time, it sounded like a humanoid bubbling, under water [Yes, that's what it says.] .

There was a 10’ door in the eastern wall and we used it. The screeching sound seemed to become muffled heading in this direction.

We came upon a locked, barred gate that had been torn open, and we were able to fit through. What could possibly go wrong? 20’ further along the tunnel we found ourselves in an alcove. Alcoves lined the tunnel going forward. In the first one we found cages of chickens, rabbits and turkeys, all very much alive. In the next alcove, 20’ on, we found pots of mushrooms and other vegetables, all growing a bit wild, though they look as if they have been well tended in the past. Lichen lined the walls of the tunnel as well.

20’ further on we found an arched door. Garlic hung from a nail, though the door had been splintered and broken inward. Gonchar stuck his head through the door (by far his least useful organ) and heard someone groaning. Gonchar entered the small, charming, circular room to find a halfling spiked to the wall by a knife through the hand. The halfling’s neck bore the wound of a vampire bite.

Stew and tea were boiling over on the stove. Bent nearly double, Cathal entered the room and pulled the knife out of the wall, freeing the halfling. Cathal bound the halfling’s wounds and healed him for 1 point. Menka cast cure light wounds on the halfling. The halfling roused himself and immediately bolted toward the stove, turning down the fires below the tea and boiling stew.

Pippen Renfield#

The halfling was addled, only vaguely coherent. He introduced himself as Pippen. Pippen Renfield. " Our companion did this" was all we could really get out of him at first. The halfling was formerly a servant of the Huntress, though he found himself freed from the bond. The Huntress may indeed have been destroyed in the river, freeing all of her servants. Kyril suggested that if she had made it back to her casket in time, she would be weakened, and her servants would run amok, in either case.

Either way, it seemed as though it had been Arkadios chained to the wall back at (C ). The Huntress left him behind as a gift for the party. Now Arkadios is the greater vampire, in the vacuum left by her destruction? Arkadios freed himself from the chains, and broke his way into the halfling’s chamber, then proceeded to milk him for a pint when necessary. Or was the Huntress milking him?

Pippen told us that the Huntress had been protecting the halfling’s son - his son lived “below”, some sort of abomination? His son existed among the fish-men, below. Thus, the halfling was enslaved to her.

Cathal asked the halfling about the safe in the wall. He was told that “some of her treasure is still in there but I cannot open it”. He told us most of her treasure was in her casket room.

Searching around the room, we found a foul-smelling pantry. Really foul. “Gonchar after a chili- eating contest” foul. The pantry contained clothing and sewing supplies for both a halfling and a very large humanoid, perhaps the halfling’s son? Ulland found nothing in the pantry, but Gonchar found a secret door.

Opening that secret door, the party was assailed by the stench of death. The door opened into a long closet with 3 bodies in it. A male and female each of the Innsport folk, and a dwarf. All 3 corpses were bone white, fully drained. Chained to the wall was a huge, green fish-like bipedal creature. Alive? Dead? An abomination, it was a fish as well as a man, webs under his arms. It radiated a strong, chaotic evil. Cathal dispatched the creature with righteous violence, though he was so overcome by revulsion that his strike failed at first, and it was a messy death. There was nothing else in the room except for the bodies and the infernal stench.

Back in Pippen’s chambers. A halfling village had been painted on the wall. A coat rack near the painting held a coat and a walking stick. We noticed that the end of the walking stick would fit perfectly in one of the windows in the painting.

Ulland, being trained by Flint, attempted to pick the lock on the safe. Both ersatz thieves were immediately zapped by an electrical trap, taking 13 points of damage each. Undeterred, Flint tied the Luck Blade to his belt and tried the lock again. This time it clicked open. It was a large safe. More like a small room.

  • Gold pieces
  • a locked cask
  • a skeletal torso lay against the wall, wearing lovely armor!
  • a huge mace and shield (praise Thoth!)

In the back of this small room we saw a bronze column. Giant, enormous jewels sat atop this column. Cathal pulled the skeletal torso out of the safe. The armor it wore was gorgeous and festooned with 3 diamonds. He pulled the armor from the small skeleton carefully and, trying it on, found that it conformed to his larger frame perfectly (magic, unidentified).

Flint checked the cask for traps, finding none. He attempted to pick the lock and got stuck by a poison needle trap. He made his save, and, surviving, found the cask to be filled with jewels, gems and “MU scrolls”. The large shield was given to Cathal, while Menka grabbed the large mace, praise Thoth!

Going for the unholy trinity, Flint checked the pedestal for traps, found none, examined it and set of yet another electrical trap which zapped him for 16 points. Ouch. The party decided en masse to let Gonchar check for traps in the future. Flint did find a secret door in the room, though. It opened into a small cabinet that held vials of blood, as well as a terrifying figurine. The statuette was highly evil, depicting a tentacle-faced lizard of some sort [We did *not* smash the vials of blood...] .

Reviled, Cathal smashed the figurine. A concussive force seemed to blow outward from our position. Immediately we heard a shrieking, deafening screech in the hall behind us, followed by massive thudding footprints.

Menka said a prayer.

Looking back through the arched doors we saw 2 huge, giant, winged things approaching. Flopping along on a combination of legs, wings and lobster claws, they were too big to fit through the doorway. A nauseating affront to nature. Wings, talons and claws tore at the door, reaching in and attacking the party.

  • initiative tie
  • Tim fired off a lightning bolt
    • one of the creatures got nailed
    • the bolt went around the other?
  • Kyril cast faerie fire
  • Cathal got hit for one point of damage by one claw, though the other missed
  • Cathal hit one of the creatures for 7 points of damage
  • Gonchar hit the other twice for 29 points of damage, flinging black ichor everywhere
  • the creatures attacked again, missing Gonchar but nailing Cathal for 5 more points
  • initiate tie
  • the creatures missed
  • Gonchar nailed one of the creatures for 31 points of damage, dropping it
  • the remaining creature attacked again, missing Cathal
  • Lycovyne hit the creature for 14 points
  • initiative tie
  • Cathal got hit hard for 18 points
  • he hit back for 12 points
  • Gonchar destroyed the creature with a natural 20 and 39 points of damage
  • 2 bya-kee, 67, 68 HP

Kyril cured Cathal’s lighter wounds twice, for 16 points. Cathal laid hands on himself for 3 points while we all averted our eyes. The battle roused Pippen somewhat. When asked about those creatures that just attacked, he told us that the Huntress had been breeding these and other, similar creatures and setting them loose.

We were concerned with leaving Pippen out and vulnerable once we’d left the area. Neither did we trust him fully. We decided to lock him up in the nasty pantry and to free him on our way out if possible. We told him that we planned to press onward, through the picture. He understood and told us “The bats will try to knock you off the bridge. Watch out for the garbage eater below the bridge. The far wall has a portal to her place, but it is laden with traps.”

We used the walking stick as a key in the painting and a portal opened in the east wall. We formed a marching order and walked through this portal. Just on the other side of the portal, hung up for constant use, were dirty halfling clothes and a jacket. Also brooms, mops and a large, dull axe. All covered in muck. At the door in the eastern wall, Flint heard squeaking and fluttering on the other side.

The door opened into large chamber with a black bridge crossing a collapsed floor in the center. The place reeked of bat guano. It smelled horrible, nearly as bad as the last bridge we encountered. Face masks hung near the entrance - they had been dipped in wine to hide the smell a bit. Gonchar, Tim and Menka put on masks.

Lycovyne and an already filthy Ulland failed their constitution checks, puked all over the place and then backed out. Kyril found the fresh air bracing and walked out onto the bridge. He spoke with animals while also applying (and thus consuming) the Philter of Persuasiveness and convinced all but one of the giant bats that were swooping down upon us to take off for a while and leave us alone. The last giant bat attacked Kyril shouting “the new master must be served!” in its bat tongue. Kyril was forced to kill it. The new master?

The bats had been convinced to leave for a while, but they would be back. Those not actually puking helped those that were actively puking to cross the bridge. Regrouping on the far side of the bridge, we were confronted by a bare 95’ wall. Menka found a secret door in the wall, praise Thoth!

Flint checked the door out and found no traps. Ulland found no traps as well, and he opened the door. The door opened into a long hallway. At the far end of the hallway we saw a wizard gesticulating!

  • Menka cast silence 15’ on the wizard, but the wizard disappeared
  • Menka had prepared the spell but not cast it
  • walking all the way down the hallway we found another doorway
  • going through that door we saw another group with a wizard
  • Menka cast the silence spell and then that wizard disappeared, of course
  • we walked the length of that hallway - it terminated in stairs going around the corner and then up
  • for some reason, Lycovyne had to make a save vs. poison and failed, getting ill again
  • Tim made that same check successfully, for whatever reason
  • we climbed the stairs into a long, darkened hallway - no torches, no phantoms
  • checking for traps in this hallway, we tripped over a device that dispelled and illusion and revealed 2 bodies lying prostrate with shattered leg bones
  • grooves in the floor
  • we continued on, skirting the groove trap in the floor
  • a manticore appeared at the far end of the hallway
  • initiative win
  • Ilierann let a fireball rip down the hallway from his wand, clearly nailing the manticore
  • it shot spikes down the hallway, nailing Cathal for 3 points, Gonchar for 4 points and Ilierann for 4 points as well
  • initiative loss
  • it reached us and landed on Gonchar, clawing and biting him for 6 points of damage
  • Cathal nailed the already charred creature for 14 points, killing it
  • manticore, 40 HP

We will return to the manticore’s corpse later to mine it for spell components and ink.

Lycovyne 34/45
Menka 39/47
Kyril 46/54
Gonchar 53/88
Flint 16/55
Ulland 64/82
Cathal 41/57
Tim 24/29

Continuing on, that hallway ended in a reinforced door with an unusual locking mechanism, as well as a padlock.

Session 22 Loot#

The safe in Pippen’s chambers:

  • gold pieces
  • a locked cask
    • filled with jewels, gems and “MU scrolls”
  • a skeletal torso lay against the wall, wearing lovely armor!
    • armor unidentified, festooned with 3 diamonds
    • equipped by Cathal
  • a huge mace (Menka) and shield (Cathal)
    • both unidentified
